China — The Dumpling Project. April 26 –30

A Col­lab­o­ra­tion by the Index Stu­dio artists

To explore the notions of cul­tural impact and exchange, a meal and con­ver­sa­tions were cre­ated and shared around the influ­ence of all things Chi­nese on our daily lives and art prac­tice. 160 pork dumplings (one for each year since gold was dis­cov­ered in NSW which brought the first large num­bers of Chi­nese immi­grants into Aus­tralia) were cre­ated and pho­tographed. As the focus of the shared meal, the exhi­bi­tion of images of these indi­vid­ual works is the core doc­u­men­ta­tion of the col­lab­o­ra­tive process. Video and sound instal­la­tions also pro­vide other details of the evening and fur­ther mate­r­ial for reflection.
